Bizniz in a Box
The Bizniz in a Box Youth Empowerment Programme was approved within SIOC-CDT at the end of 2017 and is currently in implementation in Thabazimbi. By October 2020, a total of 27 entrepreneurs had benefitted from this programme with five permanent jobs created. The aim is to establish youth-owned enterprises in the retail sectors. Locals youths are given an opportunity to sustain themselves through self-employment, thereby securing their own livelihoods and their families’.
Exposure to the programme offers an opportunity for growth and development, as well as a chance to own a micro-business. Youth are encouraged to start thinking differently about other opportunities outside of their spaza shop (possibly through the cluster model), such as opening up a franchised business.
