As part of the SIOC-CDT culture, we embark on a social course annually during the month of July, in honour of the charitable spirit behind the iconic Nelson Mandela and to ensure continued efforts in making a difference in the lives of underprivileged people living within our beneficiary communities.
In 2019, we contributed in refurbishing a dilapidated Day Care Centre located in the Ga-Segonyana municipal jurisdiction (Wrenchville) . This year we focused our Kanako Social Responsibility Programme resources on assisting Joe Morolong; two initiatives have been identified.
The first initiative was aimed at assisting the Pitsonyane Family, an extremely socially challenged family in Loopeng village, having more than 5 people living with disability and primary school children overseen by two elderly citizens. They have been identified by a Non Profit Organization named Hope Missionary together with Joe Morolong municipal councillors who then contacted us to contribute in improving their current socio-economic status. Our donation was officially handed over to the family on Saturday, 18 July 2020 and the occasion was graced by the presence of the Northern Cape premier Dr Zamani Saul, Hope Missionary leader, tribal authority, and local government officials.
We donated a borehole solar system (with installation of two water taps), improved their house to be disability friendly by installing wheelchair ramps and painting, donated food garden seeds and equipment as well as blankets, clothing and PPE for protection against Covid-19.
The second initiative will aid Tshedimosetso bagodi club for the aged community project in Dinokaneng village, Joe Morolong Local Municipality. The centre is managed by elderly community members who help each other with staying active and healthy by participating in sports activities, teaching themselves handy work and crafts as well as providing for their immediate needs. We are erecting a fence for the
centre, buying blankets, PPE (face masks and sanitisers), gardening seeds and equipment’s as well as JoJo tanks to assist in running the centre smoothly.
We hope that these gifts will go a long way in transforming the lives of our beneficiaries and wish for them to stay safe during these difficult times.
