SIOC-CDT, in partnership with NCDoH has launched the much-needed Re a Fola Mobile Clinic on the 7 October 2020 in Penryn Village, Joe Morolong. SIOC-CDT CEO, Mr Vusani Malie was joined by Department of Health: Head of Department, Dr Dion Theys, Joe Morolong Mayor, Cllr Dineo Leutlwetse and Speaker Cllr Violet Jordan as well as tribal authority representatives who officially cut the ribbon to open this mobile clinic for community usage.
This mobile bus clinic will be rendering Primary health care services to the community of JTG district and Tsantsabane municipality from October 2020 to March 2021. The primary health care services will be implemented according to National Department of Health policies and guidelines. Whereas medication, consumables, Nursing personnel, counsellors and data captures will be provided by the NCDoH, sessional medical professionals (General Practitioner, Dentist, Audiologist and Optometrist) will be sponsored by SIOC-CDT. These medical professionals will render the services three times a week for the duration of the project. SIOC- CDT will also be sponsoring spectacles for the optometry patients in need.
Following a baseline assessment concluded in 2019, we have always known that the JTG District communities are concerned about their healthcare. The launch was specifically held in Penryn to give hope and address severe healthcare challenges this community has been facing; especially because they have not been receiving medical services for the past seven months.
The mobile clinic will be stationed in Penryn Monday to Friday for the whole month of October and move to other areas of JTG district and Tsantsabane for the remaining months of the project duration.
The objective of this project, amongst others, is to provide quality health care services to remote parts of the JTG District and Tsantsabane beneficiary communities, especially in areas that are severely impacted.
“SIOC-CDT believe that community health and wellbeing is as important and an enabler to effective and sustainable employability and entrepreneurship (a healthy community has endless possibilities). In addition, we believe in an inclusive community that has equal chances of participation in economic activities and so we are committed to ensure support for the vulnerable”. Through the leadership of the JTG District Department of Health and the province we agreed that the situation in Penryn is dire and that something had to be done immediately, deployment of this mobile clinic is in addition to the huge contributions we currently making to the Department of Health to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. We have so far provided PPE, consumables and equipment as well as sponsorship to augment staffing in the district to increase government’s capacity to care for those affected by the pandemic”, said SIOC-CDT CEO Mr Vusani Malie.
